And often we skip this because it's awkward.
And who wants to say, like, I did this?
with awkward silence after it.
It's just no fun at all, but it is beyond healing in a relationship.
And then, when you sit in it for a minute, and sometimes it's just a few seconds, then you apologize.
Few dos and don'ts on a good apology, and this is elementary, but I'm still at work in all of this.
One, do be specific.
So not just sorry, but I'm sorry for that biting comment I made.
I'm sorry I was late.
I'm sorry, whatever the example, I cheated on you, whatever it is, major or minor.
Do focus on your part of the problem, not theirs.
So don't manipulate them to apologize for their half of the, you just apologize for your part.
Don't put a butt at the end.
This is like a classic JMC.
I know I just spoke about myself in the third person.
That's kind of Kanye and kind of lame.
But I do this all the time.
I literally did this a few nights ago after writing my teaching.
I said, Tammy, I'm so sorry I made that comment, but you were 30 minutes late and you wanna justify your behavior and you want to make yourself look bad and all you do is make the person that you hurt more angry and more hurt and more frustrated with you.
It doesn't even do what you want it to do.
