But, man, for up-close shooting and whatnot, for fast, precise shots where a person is trying to kill you or an animal is trying to kill you, I mean, a red dot, I mean, that's exactly where it's home.

My professional hunters that I work with in Africa right now, we got plains game and dangerous game hunts, but both of those guys have a red dot sight on their guns.

It's not a double rifle, but it's a bolt-action big-bore rifle that they each use.

They both have red dots on them.

They killed a charging buffalo last week.

I have not.

I shoot handguns a lot for concealed carry and just for fun and whatnot, but I've never taken one of field hunting.

That's its own world as well, too.

I was talking to a guy at the shooting range I saw one time.

He was shooting a Thompson Center contender.

and i was like okay what's that you got he's like oh yeah you know i got it's in 730 waters and i got a 30 30 barrel for it and this and that and i was like are you allowed to own a thompson center contender if you don't have 15 different barrels for it and he's like no he's like you can but almost nobody does you know and so the guys that go that way they go that way hard what's what's some misconceptions john as far as caliber like you hit on a little bit of that earlier like the sort of the controversy with the six five creed more and stuff but um

So caliber cartridge selection is fun to talk about.

I love doing it.

I can do it all day long.

I've made my career doing that.

But the biggest misconception is people pay way too much attention to cartridge selection instead of other things.

You can do all kinds of stuff with the 6.5 Creedmoor if you place your shots right and you use the right bullets.

And the same thing is true of the .308 or .30-06 or whatever.

Most people, truth be told, would be better served by picking one cartridge that does most things well, using appropriate ammo for it, and just spending lots and lots of time at the range.

I mean, Tyler Friel at Outdoor Life, he killed a grizzly bear with a 6.5 Creedmoor with a Nosler partition bullet.
