And the people that were most apt to do that were younger and inexperienced hunters and whatnot and not necessarily knowing what they didn't know.

Kind of like the trouble I got into on my first hunt in Africa when I was so much younger and then I was humbled and I realized what I was doing.

It really is.

It is the very rare person that can lay down at the shooting range and make a first-round hit on, say, an 8-inch target at 600 yards.

You're not going to get a cider.

You don't get a redo if you misjudge the wind or any of that.

Lay down.

Do it on command.

Well, that becomes a difficult thing for most people to judge, right?

You've probably heard of the Dunning-Kruger effect, where you look at a graph of how much someone thinks they know about something versus what they actually know.

There's a lot of people that are shifted to the left side of that graph that are new hunters and whatnot, but...

Often it takes some sort of a painful experience for you to realize, oh, my God, I have no idea what I'm doing here.

And then once you get back up and you have a lot of years of experience, then it's a different story.

But I would say that just due to the advances in technology and whatnot, maybe 500, 600 yards is the equivalent of today of 300 to 400 yards 20, 30 years ago.

And guys were doing the same thing back then, but the people that were doing that have conveniently forgotten that they were the ones making those mistakes.
