So I discovered the world of... I started by just listening to classical music because that's all I really knew.
And then, you know, through...
Spotify, really.
And as much as I may mistrust being fed stuff by an algorithm, I have to really thank Spotify for introducing me to ambient music, to jazz, to sort of this weird midway between jazz and ambient, which...
is like a big thing for me to drone music.
My Spotify unwrapped last year was like, number one, John, you are a fan of drone music.
And I thought, I don't even know what that is.
Turns out a lot of the music I'd been listening to is that.
So anyway, now I tend not to listen to anything with lyrics in after about 6 p.m.
So as soon as I'm like winding down, or especially if I'm in bed, I just listen to instrumental music.
And I think, you know, that's not to say there's not some incredibly depressing instrumental music.
And sometimes I'll put on like an ambient piece and I'll be like, no, this is too much foreboding in this.
Or there's some weird beep in the background, which is agitating me.
But I've sort of found my go-to.
I've got a couple of playlists.
One for meditation, which is quite specific.
Can't have too much sort of agitation in it.
And one for when I do crosswords in bed.
