In the context of my shows or my books, like obviously I can be whiny, but it has to be like this kind of like self-aware whininess.
Like for instance, even you're probably too young, my child, but there used to be this man called Ray Martin and he was the host of A Current Affair and I did this thing where I โ
because his show used to come and like doorstop people and make them look really guilty because it's like... And then I... And he was doing this thing where he was making a big fuss about these unemployed people who were these young people who were still in bed at 11am when everyone else is at work and blah, blah, blah.
So I turned up to his house with my crew and was like, well, Ray, you're still here at 11am.
And like, what?
And he's like...
feeling the need to defend himself, you know, like, oh, this is really late at night, then whatever.
Then he just did all the tropes that someone who's been unfairly attacked does, like he puts his hand on the camera, grabs him by the thing.
And for me, just like, I mean, I didn't know what was going to happen.
That just showed how you can just totally stitch someone up because, like,
Clearly, Ray Martin's a hard worker and I'm not genuinely saying he doesn't work, but I could make the host of A Current Affair look as guilty as the regular person.
Anyway, the reason I tell you that is because in the actual, you know, the unedited version of it, when I was...
out on the street, I occasionally fell back into like being a bit whiny, like kind of like, but not, not like, we're actually on public land.
And this was like one of the first things I'd ever done.
And I remember being in the edit suite and,
And like everyone was on my side on some level of like, Jesus, considering how powerful current affair is and how they've screwed over so many people.
Thank God someone's finally, and you've done it, John.
And like in this little room where everyone's on my side and stuff like that.
And when it got to that little whiny thing,
So I learned from that, like even when people who like me, it's like, yeah, I've got to, you know, McDonald's has a Bible for like the characters like Ronald McDonald and Grimace and Hamburglar, like what they can do, what they can't do, da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
