You know, before I went to Russia, I never read.

And I remember there's a thing called Black Tuesday where they basically cut half the class and everybody has to go in front of all your teachers and they analyze you.

And for me, it was doubly hard because they would analyze me in Russian and then I'd have to wait for the translation.

And you sort of are known whether you get kicked out or not.

And so some people walk out in tears.

Some people walk out in joy.

And

I remember my acting teachers, and again, I'm hearing this through translation, but they said, you know, John, your talent, I remember this so perfectly, your talent's like a gem.

It's like a wild gem.

But they said it's completely unformed.

You have no elegance.

They said, we bet you don't read.

And I'm like, never read a book in my life.

You know, like never done it.

And they said, from this point on, never let there be a moment.
