I know I hadn't brought anything.
I knew it was an enormously emotive room and a level of sort of openness with these young artists, these serious young theater artists that I was completely unfamiliar with.
And I knew that I had to jump.
And it was no different...
honestly, than jumping into a street fight or jumping into a football game or jumping into a situation that, okay, there's only one thing to do here.
If you're sparring and boxing, okay, let's go.
You just take that step and you go.
And I have from a young age been quite addicted to that step.
And I knew that that step was necessary there, even though I had no idea what I was doing.
And I always come back to this word, reckless abandonment.
You stop thinking.
You get out of your own head and you just go forward and you try to connect with something bigger.
You know, I do remember kind of coming back to myself with tears down my eyes, you know, with this story that I had completely made up.
But then also, you know, noticing while I was telling the story, the sort of grip, the real palpable grip that I had over the other folks in the room.
And I saw the emotion from them.
And I knew that it was something special.
And I knew that it was something very powerful.
