Yeah, so this really kind of leapt into people's consciousness a couple of weeks ago when the White House released a report on the Smithsonian.
It was 160 pages long, accusing the museum's director, Anthony Hartig, of radical activist ideology, that's their words, undermining faith in American institutions.
And it really, really matters because those museums are mostly funded by the federal government.
They can, you know, turn off that tap relatively easily.
And that is a threat that they've been making.
And a lot of experts in black history are saying that the White House is is essentially trying to de emphasize the impacts of slavery on American history.
Yeah, I think one of the the really interesting things if we look at American history is the focus on the history of slavery, the founding fathers, everything like that.
So
You know, if you look at the founding fathers, George Washington, you know, Thomas Jefferson, those people, most of them were slave owners.
And this is something we've known.
Washington owned up to a hundred slaves.
Now it's a kind of very nuanced picture.
He's seen as sort of more humane than a lot of slave owners.
It's understood that he came to see slavery as wrong later in his life and he freed his slaves after his death.
But it's it's a really complicated picture and
I think we need to be really clear.
This isn't us projecting 2026 values back into history and saying they didn't meet our standards.
Their ownership of slaves was controversial even then.
So if you think about the signing of the Declaration of Independence, there were arguments about how much they should mention slavery in that, how much they should mention the hypocrisy of them talking about life, liberty, and freedom.
Freedom when they actually owned hundreds of human beings themselves.
