In addition kind of like leaning into this AI you know focus we actually saw the SK Hynix take their US debut so that's a South Korean chip manufacturer and they were the largest ever US listing by a foreign company coming in at 26.5 billion US dollars so pretty notable there to see that kind of interest and the book was actually oversubscribed by seven times when they
when they listed.
So, you know, a lot of positive indications over the week.
But to counter that, we also have, you know, Q2 earnings coming up and analysts actually have increased their expectations throughout the quarter for the S&P 500, which is quite unusual.
And that's starting to indicate, you know, and kind of feed some of that discussion of a potential earnings bubble again.
Certainly has been quite a lot of ups and downs in that recently.
Last week, we saw Donald Trump announcing that the ceasefire is over and a return to hostilities, US and Iran trading strikes back and forth.
The markets have largely sort of treated this as with the expectations that it won't be a return to, you know, kind of all out hostilities or a long, long extended thing.
And we've seen, you know, little impact on the broader market.
That being said, we have seen oil prices respond.
Midweek, we actually saw WTI crude up 4.3%.
That dipped back down later in the week, but definitely seeing kind of those impacts on the oil pricing.
We also, we did sort of see in combined with those oil prices that the,
Fed minutes were released and kind of doubled down on that hawkish sentiment.
So, you know, all of this kind of uncertainty geopolitically and that hawkish sentiment from the Fed has really given a bit of a pull on Treasury.
So Treasuries are looking a bit weaker.
The 10-year government bond is actually up nine bits to 4.57% in the week.
I don't think so.
In New Zealand and Australia, we're a little bit less concentrated in tech, so a lot of the things that drove the US market, some of that AI focus and those chip companies, we don't have as much of an impact here locally.
However, what we did see was that miners were down 4% on the week, but it actually bounced back up a bit on Friday, led by BHP and Rio Tinto.
