That's how you learn how to sit at a dinner table and you learn what's okay and what's not.

And you also learn things like pro-social teasing, right?

Like uncles and aunts often tease each other, but they do it in a way that's full of respect and love and not cruel.

I mean, sometimes it can be cruel, but it still usually has some dignity preserved in it.

Well, how do you learn to do that?

Like, I'm pretty sure my kids know how to do that at a family dinner because they've watched my brothers and I do it for years.

But did they ever get a chance to watch adults who are kind and compassionate start to have sort of back and forth banter in a digital space?

I don't know.

I mean, most of what they see, even I, who watch a lot of it, don't know what a lot of it what's happening.

Right.

I don't know what's going what they're seeing on YouTube.

I don't know.

I mean, I check pretty often, but that doesn't mean I see it all.

But I wish I could have controlled and could still control

well, they're old enough now, I don't need to.

But when they were little, I wish we could control how they experience it.

But the real point I'm making is that they need to experience it if we want them to learn how to do it well.

It can't be, hey, we need to shelter them from it.

Because then they turn teenagers and we suddenly go, now you can have an Instagram account.
