There was nowhere near as much awareness of mental health issues and the mental well-being of players.
It was very much a, are you fit physically?
And I think that's an area that is improving.
Could there be a lot of work done to help further improve it?
Of course there can, but there's always got to be a starting point.
I think just being my age and experience, it certainly does help.
I don't know how I would have dealt with that at,
18 19 20 um but I know it would have helped having a senior pro at the time saying it is okay you know if you're not feeling great or if you're having a problem with it come and speak to us um and that's something that obviously I tried to do um not just for the young lads because there were some senior lads as well you know like myself that
that struggled with it and having that support unit and that strength around us, which Justin again was, was massive on, um, was certainly something that, that helped us in those early days.
Do you miss him?
Every day, every day, you know, it's, um, might be a magazine, it might be a programme, it might be a bit on the TV that you see, um,
you know, and you can't help but miss him.
You know, he's such a big character.
Just a real, let's say, very simple thing to say, but just a top, top guy.
And I'll be honest, in football, you know, you come across people every day that are good people, you know, but when you're here, you're here and then you move on and then, you know, you stay in touch, but not Justin for me, someone who I would have been very close to
regardless of whether I was playing for him at Leighton Orient or whatever.
You know, he's just someone that had that impact, certainly on myself and my family.
And yeah, for sure.
But I try and keep all the good times, you know, again, speaking and being very privileged as I am at the moment to be speaking to Charlie and Kerry.
