I do think that ongoing services from the sheriff is potentially a compelling reason.
I just don't think that that's likely to translate into a traditional parcel tax.
And, you know, in the course of our exploration of a joint powers authority or some other type of thing, if there's a special district that could help fund that in the same way that our
fire services funded.
I think that might be something that would be more well received by the public and would be something worth looking at.
I will just reiterate some disappointment that there wasn't more information on the utility user tax.
if only because the direction that we gave at the last time that we had this underscored the importance of eventually renewing it and trying to make sure that our outlying forecast in the years to come is not going to create a stronger structural problem for us.
But I will certainly say I don't think that 2026 is likely to be the year
primarily because of how how strained everyone is feeling and it seems like every day i'm fielding a complaint about a water bill or a an electrical bill so this might be a uniquely bad time for that one

All right, two hopefully quick questions.
So in clarification, there hasn't been any research already done on what is or isn't allowable, what the government code already prescribes with respect to the use of parkland for anything other than parkland, yes?
Or for the sale of public land for that matter?
In other words, there just hasn't been any additional research done other than this is the first time that we're receiving this and we're being told to basically tell you, yes, you should take a look at this or no, you shouldn't.
Okay, all right, because I just wanted to underscore that there is a procedure that exists
under state law housed at Government Code Section 38-440 and following that speaks specifically to the issue of the discontinuation of parks that have already been dedicated for such use.
And so I hope that there is some extensive discussion of
a whether this is already preempted by state law and that procedure has to be followed and then um you know b whether we would really need to go down this path and it isn't in fact already covered by what state law would require the other thing i would really like to make sure that we have going into this is some sort of cost estimate on on the incremental additional cost of
running a ballot initiative, I'm sorry, a ballot measure.
I'm glad that we're at least talking about this going into a general election where there will already be an election and we're not having to call it on a special basis, but I want to understand what it's going to cost us, especially in light of the fact that there appear to be significant protections already in existence in state law.
