They struggled to get a foot on the ball and hold it and keep possession in the first half.
And as you said, they did weather the storm up until that goal.
But
They kept their heads high and I think going in at half-time, 1-0 down, they actually probably wouldn't have been too upset about that given that they couldn't have put their stance in the first half.
And then I suppose they came out in the second half and I thought it was a completely different game.
Obviously the sending off I thought had a big impact on the game as well and Ireland really...
we're able to actually create some chances and hold on to the ball much more.
But I definitely think it was a game of two halves.
Yeah, and that's what will concern me with France moving forward into the World Cup.
Like, I'm not sure how ruthless they are as a team, as a nation.
And obviously they have never really been super successful in the World Cups or in the Euros.
So that is, I suppose, concerning if I was a French fan.
For the Ireland team, in terms of getting a grip on the ball and actually playing and creating some chances...
I was and I wasn't surprised because I know it's in them and they've done it in Porche Cuiv against the Netherlands, against Poland and they're getting much more stronger in attack so I wasn't too surprised to be totally honest and
I actually think there was two really good chances so obviously the Abi Larkin one but I thought the chance that Marisa Shiva had as well was also a really really good chance and I know she'll be super disappointed she just didn't connect with it properly but and also the Anna Patton one I thought that was a great save by the keeper so like we could have got the rub of the green the other way and it'd be a different story today so yeah like France obviously are a top quality team but I didn't think they
ripped us apart and had loads and loads of chances and Courtney didn't have to
like pull off incredible saves like she has in previous games so yeah like we struggled in the first half definitely on keeping possession but we defended really well so the girls will definitely be proud I'm sure they'll be disappointed obviously in losing the game but like there's still a route to get to Brazil so that's the main thing.
100% it's the backbone of the team and yeah I would have thought like how are we going to replace these players that have retired like incredible athletes incredible players giving so much to the Ireland team but yeah Anna and Caitlin and they all just kind of slotted in and have really just made their mark themselves which I think is brilliant yeah I thought Caitlin Hayes had one of the best games in an Ireland shirt
um against the netherlands i thought she was outstanding she put her body on the line she was just everywhere when the ball was back there and i also think the five at the back is the way the team like to play and they're the most comfortable and i think credit to carla ward for adapting back to the five because i know when she first came in she was playing at a fourth back and i suppose
other managers may not have adapted and they want to play their style and their way.
