A letter just dropped on through the letterbox one day.
I think my club manager had been kind of told or made aware because there was a little bit of buzz and you don't really realise it at the time but there's a few more conversations going on between your parents and the coach and stuff like that and
and um yeah the letter dropped in and i kind of saw it and saw the crest on it and the england line of those three lions and just suddenly my heart was like leaping out of my my chest kind of feeling and you know it because i think it was in 94 where i first saw a snippet of england women playing in the women's world cup i saw it in the newspaper and i stayed up to watch it and i saw it and i was like i was playing then for this club and i was like that's what i want to do so you felt inspired by that
Definitely.
Those little snippets.
It was literally a couple of minutes, like highlights of the rounds or the scores and the few of the goals.
And it just ignited something in me to say, oh, my God, there's an England team.
I'd love to get to that level or I could maybe dream.
And, you know, what happened?
Yeah.
And at the time I didn't know, you know, I didn't even know that I was good enough to possibly do that.
But.
Yeah, when that letter dropped in on the door and I saw, at that time, they listed everyone that had been selected.
So there was players like Hope Powell, Julian Coulter, Marion Spacey.
You know, all these players that I just recently learned that were representing their country.
And it was just like, wow.
Yeah, well, I remember going to my first camp, arriving, and obviously I was about 16 at the time.
So it was a couple of years after I joined Horsham, 16, 17, and that I was then walking into a camp where seniors were playing.
And I just got used to that at my club, having to step up to the senior team and obviously then mixing it with maybe 20 plus players.
30-year-olds, I think the eldest was the keeper, 36, you know, so there's a big gap in the age difference and just trying to realise where I fitted in and, you know, some of the conversations that they were talking about in the changing rooms were like, hang on, I don't know much about babies and da-da-da-da, you know, and all this because some of them were mums at the time as well.
