okay so if you want romance and mystery so i always recommend the red palace as the gateway book into my the world that i've created it is a palace thriller with very subtle romance in it but if you don't like like murder and gore then i would recommend my latest book behind five willows for a more sparkly fluffy romance

Oh, so it's so hard to pitch my own book.

No, no, you got this.

It's such a good book, so I believe in you.

I mean, to put it simply, it is basically Pride and Prejudice meets You've Got Mail, set in Joseon Dynasty Korea.

But it is also a book about a love story

set in 1792 Korea that blossoms in a bookshop that is lending out books banned by the government.

means so much to me.

It feels like I'm coming home because I think for the longest time while I was writing my Korean historicals, at the same time, I really missed the world of Jane Austen.

And I didn't know how to resolve this tension until one day I was just like, why don't I just let the two worlds collide?

And when I was trying to figure out, because I really love centering history in all my books.

And so when I was writing this loose Pride and Prejudice inspired romance, I was trying to figure out when to set the book.

And a thought occurred to me.

I was just like, what was happening in Korea around the time Jane Austen was writing Pride and Prejudice?

So she wrote in 1796.

So I kind of spun the globe, looked at Korea, and I'm like, in 1792 Korea,

there was a book ban going on.

And I'm like, what better time to set up a love story between two book lovers like in Pride and Prejudice than during a time when it was illegal to write and read novels?

Yes, that was the part.
