This is the outlook from the Colorado State University showing these numbers significantly lower from where they should be.
Average is 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major storms.
That's category three or higher.
And you can see how low the numbers are simply due to those factors that I just went over.
And as we just saw with Rebecca's report, there's a lot of Saharan dust out there as well, working to inhibit the tropical development as well.
So looking at El Nino as we head down the road a bit, as mentioned, it could influence our winter weather.
Strong Pacific jet blows over the Gulf waters and that adds a lot of energy in the atmosphere.
So when we see fronts push through with squall lines, we have to be on guard for the potential of widespread severe weather throughout the duration of the winter.
We've seen that in past years.
We think back to 1998, we had a tornado outbreak here in the state of Florida, the deadliest tornado outbreak in February of 98 when we had such a strong El Nino.
So
really can affect a lot of the weather patterns, not only in the summer, but into winter as well.
Now, how far do we have to go with hurricane season?
The peak is still yet to come.
That would be September 10th.
And we've got to go all the way through the bitter end of November.
And as I like to say here along the west coast of the state of Florida, where we're located here in the Tampa Bay area, we have to watch through the bitter end simply the way the upper air patterns kind of shift around.
So August looking to be very quiet, Rebecca, but certainly something that we'll be watching over the coming days because it's not over to the lower.
And we also have to make mention it only takes one storm in the season for you.
That is wild.
