And she went, well, you know, Amanda was two and my mother was very proper.
Amanda was two and we got this phone call saying, would you like to adopt the little half sister of your little girl?
So she'd always start crying then and Amanda and I would laugh.
It was really cute though.
We'd make fun of her a little bit.
And so, yeah, so that happened.
And I flew down from Auckland to Christchurch to be raised.
And mum said, wow, we certainly heard you before we ever saw you.
And that was a real sign of things to come.
But it was super cute.
And I always knew that Amanda and I had the same birth mother.
and that she couldn't look after us, and mum and dad couldn't have babies, and so here we were.
And I had this idyllic little middle-class upbringing in Christchurch with this grandma, my mum's mum, who we looked alike, you know, weirdly.
And people would go, oh, well, we can tell whose granddaughter she is.
And Nana and I would have this cute laugh, like, oh, those dicks –
I'm adopted.
But it was a sweet, lovely thing, and I just felt so lucky, you know, and that was what compelled me to look for my birth mother, that I didn't want really anything from her, or I didn't at that stage really want a relationship with her.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for putting me with my sister, you know, who's my favourite person in the world, basically.
Sorry, Dan, but, you know, first equal.
But, you know, your siblings are your longest relationships, you know, they're important people.
