And there isn't really the kind of queer culture around

that maybe they would have today if they were teenagers now.

They don't have, either of them, access to many examples of queerness in practice, you know.

So Dion is beautiful and femme, you know, presenting as very femme and she is like not kind of allowed to be queer by the people around her.

Like she's not really, she has a very complicated relationship with her sexuality and I think

I adore the process of like writing Dion and getting to know Dion and just being with Dion because like, she's a real hero to me.

She really is.

And it's not easy for her to love the way she wants to love or to just exist in her body

It's not easy for any of them to exist in their bodies in the world.

We can put it that way.

But there's a specificity to the kind of queer experience that I wanted to, yeah, I wanted to write about.

I wanted to put on a page for us, you know, for my community, for other people like me as a celebration.

And also just like, I hope there's some recognition in it for people.

I don't know.

Yeah.

So Ezra and Meg are the parents of Rothko.

And Rothko's also got a sister, Soraya, who goes by Soraya.

And these are the kind of main characters of this story.

It's a family story, you know, although Rothko's our main character and Donovan their dog, it's also a family story about this unit.
