But Anne-Marie didn't have enough money to solely focus on just an internship.

So she started waiting tables and she returned to Wilmington every weekend so that she could work in a restaurant.

But later that year, 25-year-old Anne Marie walked into the D.C.

office of her hometown congressman, Thomas Carper, and she asked for a job as a junior staffer.

Ed Friel, who was still Carper's chief of staff, gave her a glowing recommendation, and she got the job.

And the very next year, Carper ran for governor of Delaware.

He hired Anne Marie for his campaign, and he won.

She followed him to the governor's office and became a trusted scheduling secretary.

And with a job lacked in salary, it definitely made up for in power and connections.

She planned to work for Carper as long as he was in office, just to see where her career took off after that.

But in the months leading up to her disappearance...

her health took a turn for the worse.

Despite seeing both a psychologist and a psychiatrist, her eating disorder had become very serious.

The month before she disappeared, she was so weak she considered going to the hospital.

At 5'10", she weighed just 125 pounds.

She was also taking nightly laxatives.

She had been diagnosed with bulimia in addition to anorexia.

But Anne-Marie really, really wanted to recover.
