We wanted to say the truth and we couldn't because we didn't want to look like the angry black people in front of all those people.

And now as a journalist and talking to my other colleagues,
sort of black journalist colleagues, especially who have white editors, we are wasting our time debating whether she is black, whether Jamaican identity counts as black.
It does.
But we're discussing this instead of policy.
Right.
instead of Black issues, where it is easy to get people riled up and have very uneducated, ignorant opinions about the difference between race, ethnicity, and culture.
And so for me, it just felt like at a cellular level, you come to the Black Journalists Association to launch your race card attack.
And meaning that like this is something that is divisive.
Frankly, he's picking up on on pain points in some ways within the black community about who counts as black.
