I obviously saw it as nothing else.
I just wanted to be out there amongst the best.
And then that's when the Pulse approached me because they put up the argument, well, if the Ferns gave you an opportunity to trial for them, for the country, surely we should be able to sign you as a domestic player.
Because at that point I was still – I was not a resident.
I was still on a work visa –
And so obviously they did the stuff up the top and that's where I got my first contract.
So I actually had a taste of the ferns before I did franchise.
But yeah, that's when it all started.
And it was a bit of a shock for me my first year with The Pulse because at that point I'd been playing, you know, starting line-up, getting heaps of court time.
And then I was behind the likes of, at that point, Phoenix Karaka and Katrina Rorenau.
You know, I had an amazing team.
Kat Latu was in our team.
Sarah Bayman from England.
we had an amazing team, um, and I was pretty much sidelined, and so it was a big learning curve for me, it was like, suddenly I'm now on the sideline, um, and I got so much attention from Wai, um, and if you know her, she's, she's quite a stern, um, strong personality.

Wai Maramatou Manu, um, an old Silver Ferns coach, player herself, um,
She's a wealth of knowledge about netball, made me a wing defence and yeah, can't stop talking about how amazing she is.
So she gave me so much attention and I thought, oh my gosh, I don't think she likes me.
Like her training is always like, Karen, do this.
Karen, do that.
