Okay, what is mortal computation?
You could say it is intelligence.
Uh and if you've got affect or feeling uh under the hood during the mortal computation, then you have consciousness.
Um
What's the what what would be immortal computation?
Well, anything that can be run by software that is immortal.
So software that can be run on any machine is immortal.
But if the software is a thing.
um that is the uh is conscious, um then it has no need to worry about persisting, surviving, responding to drives or needs because it's immortal.
So Alex makes it a really interesting point.
The existential imperatives that underwrite self-organization of the kind that induce the notion of drives and needs and affects.
thoughts and feelings can only be an attribute of something that can die, because its i its whole purpose is to prolong the period between its introduction into the world and the point that it departs.
So it has to be mortal in this in this sort of commonsensical sense.
Yeah, I see no reason why not.
Um you just need to identify the right um functional anatomy.
And as you say, it is going beyond um creating agents, but I think you'd have to have agency as part of your um
your intelligent artifact, um, and then you would need to equip it with affect and the um the the machinery necessary to um support feelings.
