And during the terrific twos, we're literally creating the connections in our brain about, like I said, that upgrade of emotions.
So learning what confusion is, but also how I feel and how my body feels when I'm stressed and how I should calm down, which is why we have a lot more connection.
frustration and anger and scared because we have to practice.
When we hit adolescence, the same areas are changing, but they're an upgrade, which is why I use the word upgrade.
And so they're building on that learning.
So that first bit would influence the next bit.
But what we're doing now is we're learning this emotion, not just about me and my body, it's about me with you.
me with other people me in these relationships these friendships because that's the most important thing for building a tribe and helping our children survive so yeah they are that's why you get those emotional over activations but there's also like i said literal changes in the brain and stuff like that so it's similar
but more, like you said.
Excellent question because there'll be lots of people in that space, eh?
And wouldn't it be nice to have that pre?
I mean, actually, since they're born and all through their life, we can build resilience.
And I talk about that in the book, about having moments of tolerable stress because the more resilient they are, it's going to be hard going through adolescence.
We can't stop it being hard.
So the more resilient they are.
But what in the context of becoming an adolescent, they're going to push you away.
You know, that's sort of quite normal.
But if we...
before they push us away, if we can form those open conversation relationships, you can talk to me and not go, oh, you can tell me anything, but just start some conversations.
And when they get a bit maybe weird at school and they tell you something that's wrong, oh, what did you mean by that?
