And how did that feel?
And, you know, like if you can sit in those and however feels natural for you so that when they hit adolescence and their brain is more pushing you away,
they've got a bit more comfortable about talking to you and that you're not going to yell at them or you're not going to judge them.
And they'll be more likely to come to you with that confusion potentially.
It's also really good to form relationships with other people in the extended whānau because sometimes they're the better ones and then you work out that they really like hanging out with Aunty Susan.
So when they're going through this, you go, you know what, Aunty Susan really wanted you to come and stay for a couple of nights.
Why don't you go and stay?

that that would be a better place for them right now.
They'd be able to talk to Auntie Susan more than they'd talk to you.
So maybe creating it being normal that they spend time with other people in the whānau that they seem to connect with, if you do see what I mean.
But have they come to you maybe days or weeks after or something completely different?
Yeah, sometimes they do.
See, because you've let them know that stuff's probably too raw and too sitting there, but you've opened up that understanding that I make mistakes too and it is okay.
And if they talk to you about something completely different a couple of days later, you've opened up that permission.
So perfect.
It doesn't have to be about that.
Yeah, it's another of my sort of main areas of training in that resilience, emotional resilience.
I do have a video on my website that goes through it.
But for a real simplistic understanding, as I talk about if you went to the gym and you wanted to build your muscle, you wouldn't lift a tiny little weight and you wouldn't lift a massive weight.
