I didn't realize it until I read the intro to Why We Love Middle Earth, but it is a continuation of every example the Prancing Play podcast has ever set for me, making...

Tolkien's works accessible to everyone in the fandom, showing them what avenues might be open to them, what scholarship they might be interested in, just finding everyone a seat at the table who might want one.

One of the things I've noticed over the years is that the Tolkien fandom is enormous and

but it's also incredibly fragmented.

There are artists, podcasters, scholars, YouTubers, local groups like Smiles, Discord communities, read-alongs, events.

You could spend years in the fandom and still only see a small piece of what's out there.

Brie Crossroads exists to help people find...

their way to what interests them, even if you've been in the Tolkien community for a really long time or if you're new and are looking for a place to fit in.

The idea actually grew out of years now of community involvement between moderating communities, helping organize events like our own booths, working with various creators and just being really active in fandom spaces.

I kept seeing growth.

questions come up over and over again.

People would ask, what's the Tolkien smile?

Does the Tolkien fandom have any special days that are celebrated?

Has anyone spoken about this particular topic?

Or folks who are really unaware of the vast majority of events that are happening in the Tolkien community.

And more relevant right now,

I myself keep coming across different scholars, especially right now, different artists within the Tolkien community.

And I wanted to build a platform, not that really added an extra voice to the Tolkien community,

but one that served to point as a signpost, a literal signpost to the ones that already exist or the ones that are just now coming into being or finding their own voices.
