that the quarterback could not have too many voices in his ear which kind of reminds me of a caleb williams scenario from a couple years ago his rookie year when you know they were trying to limit who could actually talk to caleb so um that was really interesting to me and so this this another example this was another example of a program that had the best intentions that clubs were not always using the way that it was intended like they were hiring the offensive assistant who was a minority
And then they were putting him with running backs or putting him with receivers, which are two positions where black coaches have often been funneled into and get stuck in those positions without forward progress.
So that was interesting to me because, I mean, we interviewed Nathan Shielhase, who is the Rams offensive coordinator now.
He came out of that program and he was also shocked to learn that the program didn't exist anymore.
And he's like, this actually helped me.
You know, he's an example of it, of it working.
He got access to Sean McVay.
He got access to these brilliant offensive minds.
And now he's an offensive coordinator and he's, you know, a hot head coaching candidate.
He may be a head coach in a couple of years and the NFL has just ended that.
Yeah, it's really hard not to look at that and jump to a bunch of conclusions of what this means long-term or even short-term future for the NFL and its stance on inclusive hiring and all that.
But it's interesting because we...
we had been working on the story for so long that things were changing, you know, as we're, as we're doing it.
And so we had this thing done and, you know, we were waiting a couple of weeks to like find the right time to publish it.
And I just, on Monday I went back to the football ops website cause I'm looking at our, on our preview link and I'm like, let me make sure all these things that we linked to are still working.
So I click on the link to the Rooney Rule where we were talking about how they had changed the description of it and how they had removed some of the specific language about how it was intended to increase hiring of minorities.
They had removed that and made it a lot softer, weaker language.
And so I clicked on that link to come to find out that that
link doesn't even exist anymore.
And I'm like, wait a second, this whole website looks different.
