They had already interviewed Robert Sala the week before, which means as soon as Patrick Graham finishes his interview at their facility, the Jaguars are Rooney Rule compliant, and they can make a head coaching hire.
And within, as soon as they fired Trent Balky, things changed, and Liam Cohen came back into the equation, and he, at the time, all the reporting was that he was going to stay in Tampa and be the offensive coordinator there, and that he had taken himself out of the Jaguars' process.
So when Patrick Graham goes to Jacksonville,
He's thinking he has a real shot at this job because as far as he knows, Liam Cohen is no longer a candidate because Liam had been reported with staying in Tampa.
And there were two stories at the time, one by CBS and one by Sports Illustrated after the Jaguars made the head coaching hire that.
you know, reported that essentially the Jaguars kept Liam's presence secretive that day, which was the same day that Patrick Graham was there to interview because they knew they needed Patrick Graham to do his interview in order to make their eventual head coaching hire, because they still needed one more external candidate who was a minority to interview to be compliant with the Rooney rule.
So yeah,
Patrick Graham is not aware of all this when he goes in and he does his interview.
And then according to two sources that we spoke to, as he's leaving the Jaguars facility, he actually sees Liam Cohen entering the facility.
So after he completes his interview at the facility, he sees Liam Cohen entering.
And it's a shock because at that point, everyone thought Liam Cohen was out of it.
And he was supposed to have a dinner reservation that night with Jaguars executives, including the owner, Shad Khan.
And Patrick shows up and he waits 30 minutes and no one is there yet.
Ultimately, the team president does show up, but he was the only executive of the four who were scheduled to attend this dinner that ended up attending the dinner.
And so Patrick takes a selfie in the 30 minutes that he's sitting and waiting for this dinner that he thought was kind of a continuation of his interview.
He's sitting and waiting and he takes a selfie of himself surrounded by the empty chairs because the moment was that hurtful to him.
And it was so, you know, heartbreaking for him to realize in that moment, because he's seeing, you know, on social media, the insiders at that point were tweeting that Liam Cohen was there and that they, and they were using language that they were actually negotiating a contract with
for Liam Cohen to become the next head coach.
Now, the Jaguars told me there was no negotiating of a contract being done that night.
