But at the same time, the guards, you know, the fight back was well and truly on with 70 people connected to the Kinnahan cartel locked up, which obviously led to a big increase in our prison environment as well at the time.
So the feud in one sense is starting to die out.
The last murders of the feud actually happened in January of 2018.
They happened, there were two people that were kind of best friends.
Derek Oakley-Hutch was shot dead outside Wheatfield Prison.
It was a Saturday afternoon in January.
And a few days later, his friend, who would have been a bit, maybe more than a bit of an enforcer for the hutch mob, Jason Budda Monolo, was shot dead.
These would be classified as actually the last murders
of the feud, but there was still plenty going on.
In that particular same month, one of the cartel's main enforcers, Eamon Cumberton from the north inner city, he received a life sentence at special criminal court for the murder of Michael Barr.
He was a dissident Republican from Northern Ireland who was wrongly blamed for being involved in the Regency Hotel attack and he was killed in the Sunset House.
And the murder plots continued
Excuse me, as the year went on, there was, again, a couple of Kinnaghan operatives arrested down in rural County Wexford.
They were trying to target a member of the Hutch family down there.
And just around the same time, there was a massive guard investigation that went on for a couple of months, but they filed a murder attempt on Patsy Hutch, the monk's brother.
And that, again, led to a large number of Kinnaghan cartel members
sub-cell people being locked up, serving significant sentences.
