We can do better.
And my hope is that Democrats in 2026, this November, in 2028, our presidential candidate, that they have bold solutions.
And I outlined some of those in the book.
No, because if all you do is have a Great Wall of China,
You essentially are dividing the countries in a way and the people and the communities and our wildlife and our conservation values in a way that's not who we are.
I always, from my time in the U.S.
Senate and at Interior, you will remember me talking about
ronald reagan and going to berlin and saying mr gorbachev take that wall down you know who are we who are we as americans that we have 130 million mexicans to the south of this 2 000 mile border 330 million americans on this side
Who are we to create this great wall that's a forever wall?
That's not the way we ought to do it.
We need security.
We need a modern border.
We can do it with technology.
We can do it, yes, with some barriers, with barriers.

Tim, I know you're probably going to take me there sometime on this podcast, but we worked with Mexico and the little town of Boquillas so that the one and a half million acre Big Bend National Park actually had this relationship with our neighbors to the south.
And the firefighters from Boquillas, do you remember them?
I think they were called the Red Devils.
Yes.
The Red Devils were fighting fires and saving our communities up in Boise, Idaho and in different places.
