You can't have a country without a border.
Democrats need to be smart and they need to be courageous about it.
And we need to have real solutions on the border itself.
And I have lots of ideas on that.
But on what is happening now,
with his administration is the United States has basically become a place of detentions of tens of thousands of undocumented workers and detention centers all across the country from a lot of different states, including right here in Colorado.
And families are being broken apart.
People are being killed who are innocent, as just happened with Mr. Salgada in Houston, Texas, a few days ago.
And that's not who we are.
So what we need to do, Tim, what we need to do
is yes, we need to recognize that we need a good and secure and modern border that uses a kind of technology that allows us to develop an example for the rest of the world on how borders work.
This is a 2,000-mile border, but it requires a tremendous amount of joint planning with Mexico and keeping Mexico's feet to the fire, not only on planning, but putting resources in place, and then to do the kind of joint approach to the creation of this modern border.
And then on the migration issue, asylum needs to be reformed.
Right now, the 2,000-mile border essentially is an attractant.
It's a place that kills people because people come from all over the world through the land bridge of the Americas across 1,500 miles of Mexico just to be able to touch what essentially is an electric fence and a barrier.
And lots of people are dying.
I talk about it in Borderlands.
There's a chapter in here that I want your readers, I want you, Tim, I know you've read the book.
I know your team has read the book, but I want you to read Death from the Guatemalan Border.
That's a riveting piece of the reality of what's happening, where people are being killed because of the failure to fix the border and to fix the migration system.
