Off the rails from the U.S.
Faster Payments Council.
Hey, thanks for eating.
I'm glad to be here.
Well, you know, the funny thing is, is there was a time when stablecoins first came out, which was about 10 years ago, that I was like, what in the world is going on here?
Well, it was also because cryptocurrency was coming out and becoming prevalent.
And I got to say, I got to give a shout out to Brian Lavender.
He was doing some work with the Payments Innovation Alliance at the time and helped really
cement my understanding and spark where I got to go learn more.
And then as I go to learn more, starting with, let's just actually just stablecoins, it gets confusing immediately because there's different types of stablecoins.
And I don't want to mention the different types.
I want to focus on one because I think if we focus on the one that, at least in our industry, we need to know, it'll make things a lot easier.
And that is, first of all, a stablecoin is a digital asset.
A stable coin is also a digital asset that is stable, hence the name, because it is backed by something.
And what we want and what we focus on and what came from the Genius Act is a stable coin that's backed one for one by a US dollar.
But the really, really simple explanation definition I give to people that if you want to start getting this, it is where cryptocurrency meets electronic banking legally.
That's a representation of your dollar.
And there are many people that say, okay, maybe it is a digital asset.
But the truth is, it's more of just a representation.
When you open up your app, and I love this conversation.
