Stephanie felt like she could talk to Aaron for hours and the feeling was mutual.

And at Aaron's cousin's 21st birthday party in 2010, he and Stephanie finally made it official.

And it was difficult with Stephanie now being three hours away at university, but they were determined to make this long distance relationship work.

They had also given her sisters rings to celebrate their own university graduations, and Stephanie absolutely treasured hers.

She always wanted to make her parents proud, and that token was an outward sign that she had.

Stephanie quickly landed a job as an English and drama teacher at the local high school in the town of Leighton, and she was absolutely thrilled about this, and so were her friends and family.

Stephanie was embarking on a career where she could inspire a love of learning in other people as her father did.

And Stephanie and Aaron also took the next step in the relationship and they moved in together.

Aaron couldn't wait to join Stephanie and Leighton.

And when he did, he took a job as a slaughterhouse worker at JBS Riverina Beef Plant.

Side note.

I too worked at a butchery.

I worked right in those below zero freezers surrounded by meat and it's not the best job that I've had.

That's for sure.

But now let me tell you about the town of Leighton because I had never been there.

I had known nothing about it.

This is a small, quiet farming community and at the time it was home to about 6,000 people.

This was a place where no one is a stranger, newcomers are noticed, and locals look out for one another.
