The face is truly like a house cat scaled up.

And when the snow leopard sits, it often sits like a house cat with its tail wrapped around itself like a muffler.

And when it sleeps, the tail curls all the way around the face.

They have very wide paws.

So even in soft snow, they often walk on top of the snow and do not sink in.

So I like to think of it like elves walking on snow because they are light as feathers.

Well, they also have one of the densest coats of any animal ever.

They have close to 4000 hairs per square inch.

And if you compare that with humans, we have about 300.

So they have a very dense double coat of down fur and guard fur.

And they are mammals.

So if they eat lots, their body can generate internal heat.

They are also very good at finding crevices inside rocks and boulders.

They're very good at navigating warm micro habitats within the big mountains.

So I think it's the set of adaptations and behaviors that the snow leopard shows that allows them to live in this difficult place.
