So when we're in our follicular phase,
We're producing estrogen.
We're starting to build the lining of our uterus.
And we are counting down the days until we are ovulating.
So energy is high.
Our sex drive is higher.
It's encouraging us to be social and active and all of these different things.
Estrogens are like our fun hormone.
So that's our follicular phase that usually lasts anywhere from 8 to 13 days.
In a healthy cycle, we're going to be ovulating.
So again, ovulation is like this event that's occurring.
The egg drops into the fallopian tube, and then it's there for 24 hours, hoping that a sperm is going to come along.
And then when the sperm doesn't come along, the egg dies.
It's not like it's waiting there for a week, which is why I think the ovulatory phase can be confusing to women.
It's not this phase.
It's just a single event that's occurring that's separating our follicular from our luteal phase.
And so...
The follicular phase ends, we ovulate, and then after that egg dies and no sperm has come along to fertilize it, then we enter the luteal phase.
And this is where progesterone takes over as the dominant hormone.
And if estrogen was like the super fun spring best friend who's like always super peppy and exciting, progesterone is like the season of fall.
