Sears has been effective in two of his three starts since coming up from AAA.
Consistency has been an issue with him, but right now, of these three pitchers, he might be the guy you actually feel best about just because he has shown the ability to give you five quality innings, even pitch into the sixth.
Again, that sounds like a low bar to clear, but Padre starters have not been clearing it for a while now.
Walker Buehler, look, we all know that he was one of the best pitchers in baseball for many, many years with the Dodgers.
He's had two Tommy John surgeries.
The stuff is just not back.
He's gone from a guy who was 98-99 with ridiculous breaking stuff to 91-93 with loopier breaking stuff.
There are times when his command is on, he's effective.
Not great, but effective.
Again, five innings, two runs.
But when his command is off, he gets bombed, as we saw his last start, five innings, seven runs, because he just doesn't have the stuff to beat guys anymore.
German Marquez still has the stuff.
He's been injured.
He's been okay at times.
So you feel okay about him.
But look, if you're the Blue Jays and your offense is rolling the way it has been,
You feel pretty good about taking at least two or three from this team in the Padres, and I wouldn't be shocked if we see a sweep just given the state of the Padres starting pitching.
And you mentioned that bullpen.
They're great.
They're exhausted because they've had to throw so many innings and the offense performing as poorly as it has.
