Look, the Padres are 30th in the majors in runs scored.
They are 30th in the majors in batting average.
They are 30th in on-base percentage.
They're 29th in slugging and 30th in OPS.
This is the worst offense in baseball by any measure, but also visually just watching them.
And that's a problem when you have more than $1.2 billion worth of contracts, a lot of the lineup, with Machado, Merrill, Xander Bogarts, Jake Cronenworth, all these guys.
They're in a really bad spot there.
And the biggest issue with the Padres right now, though, is whenever their offense has been bad, and that has happened a lot, they can always rely on their pitching, both their starting pitching and their bullpen.
Well, the bottom has dropped out of their starting pitching.
Padres are bottom five in the majors in both innings pitched and ERA from their starters.
there's in a situation now where it's a lot of reclamation projects, Walker Bueller, Griffin Canning, Herman Marquez, Joe Musgrove is hurt.
Nick Pavetta is hurt.
They're missing a lot of key guys.
So if you don't have good starting pitching and you have one of the worst offenses in baseball, yeah, you're going to struggle.
And that's where the Padres are.
And the biggest problem is there's not a fix coming anytime soon.
There's starters who are injured are still injured.
And this offense has been this bad for almost a hundred games.
Now it's not all of a sudden going to magically get better.
