And we have seen in previous years, 2021, 2023, when the Padres were not particularly good, it was a little bit of a quieter deadline.

So he's not someone who just goes and gets a ton of guys regardless.

He does look at how the team is performing, and we've seen that.

In terms of trade candidates, Manny Machado has a no-trade clause, and no team would take that contract.

Xander Bogarts has a no-trade clause, no team would take that contract.

Realistically, if you're the Padres, what you have to offer are bullpen pieces.

Mason Miller, also Adrian Morajon, Jeremiah Estrada is about to come off the I.L., Yuki Matsui and Wandi Peralta have pitched well this year.

That's really all the Padres have that they can move from a salary perspective, from a no-trade-clause perspective.

Jake Cronenworth has a limited no-trade clause, but again, he has not performed well.

The Padres are in a tough spot here.
