They didn't have a better relationship with their parents.

They didn't have nicer people to hang around.

There was nothing that I saw apart from they were more comfortable.

They had a nicer flasher car or a nicer house.

I was like, that's really cool and I get it.

But I was like, that's not how I'm going to be spending my money.

So I think I made a decision quite early on that I was going to focus my spending on things that really made me happy and nothing that didn't make me happy.

And I suspect a lot of people buy things because they feel compelled to buy things.

or they feel like they're supposed to, that keeping up with the Joneses thing, that's the impression I get.

A lot of people who will look around the neighbourhood and go, oh, my gosh, my car's the daggiest car.

This is a bit embarrassing.

I'd better buy a nicer car.

Whereas I'm like, I have the daggiest car and that's why I don't have to go to work, everybody.

I think the payoff with my time has been worth it.

And I've just had that in my mind since I was, you know, in my teens.

So it was never a problem for me.

And also I have to say engineering is,

is definitely an anti-fashion career.

And engineers are definitely pro reducing waste, right?

So I was surrounded by people who did not care how I looked.
