So I got pretty good at, at letting the words, my character say be all.

And then, and you and I have had a lot of conversation about literary versus upmarket versus commercial and,

I mean, I kind of, this is,

This is something that's like, I'm not ashamed of, but it feels tricky to say, which is that I kind of consciously was like, I kept hearing, we don't know what lane you're in.

We don't know if this is literary, if this is commercial.

My first novel really does ride the line.

And I was like, I just want to write something that's, I want to try writing something that's going to sell.

That's going to be, you know, my version of a commercial book.

my version of of romantic comedy i i've learned in the process that i'm not like a capital r romance author writing sex scenes is like a gift like i bow to people who can do that organically it's for me it was like a very messy game of of like twister like left hand yellow

Like, yeah, yeah, it's, it's not, it's not where I thrive.

So I mean, learning, learning how to kind of ride those lines and, and find my own flow in it.

But, but I didn't write this thinking about that.

I just kind of was like, use that as a starting off point, like, okay, I'm gonna, what is my version of a romantic comedy?

And it wasn't even Shakespeare.

Initially, it was

It wasn't it wasn't specifically like I'm going to write a Shakespeare book, but it kind of just turned into that.

And kind of at the further and I got, the more I was like once I had landed on A Midsummer Night's Dream, it was like all of these tropes, all of these all these facets of our contemporary romantic comedy are like they're all they're all here.

They're all there.

I don't want to say Shakespeare invented the rom-com because we all know it was Nora Ephron, but it gave me so much to work with, which was really fun.
