My name's Laura.

I am the owner of Balanced Speech Therapy.

And two years ago, I was not the owner of Balanced Speech Therapy.

I was working for a very well-known healthcare system, which I thought was going to be my dream job.

And I wanted it to be my dream job so bad.

But not too long into my journey there, I realized it was not the place for me.

My clinical values did not align with their clinical values.

I was not making any money.

And I had

a goal to pay off my student loans.

And I thought to myself, OK, I'm never going to pay off my student loans here.

I've got to get out of this.

What can I do to make money fast?

And the answer was travel therapy.

So I jumped back into being a travel SLP.

I took a school gig somewhere as an evaluator.

So I only do evaluations.

I don't do any treatment, which I really started to miss pretty quickly.

But I was evaluating these kids and they weren't qualifying for speech therapy because of the state regulations.

But I knew that they needed speech therapy.
