Because at the end of the day, right,
we can tell people what to do.
They won't do it until they're internally motivated.
So that's why we say we try and support people and encourage them to make decisions for themselves.

I feel like people get so stuck in the right wording, but at the end of the day, as psychotherapists, we try and support people.
We try and give them the information and the tools for them to make the right decisions for themselves because we know ourselves, we'll act on something.
way after we get advice or even you know the best guidance in the world but when we feel empowered enough when we have the knowledge then we can make the right action you know so i think the reason that we're so heavy on saying we don't advise is because we never want to think that we're the reason someone's life went a certain way it's their power it's their strength that got them where they are you know so yeah can i ask as a psychotherapist and a very very good one you know when people are kind of going yeah i will do that do you know oh yeah

And you know what?
I think when you have a therapist that you really gel with, the honesty is there, do you know?
Like people will be like, I'm going to do that this week and they might laugh at me, do you know?
And honestly, it isn't about that because it's the one place where you can say something a million times if you need to, if that's what your brain needs to process and you don't feel like you're annoying someone, you don't feel like you're trashing out again with your friends because the shame, there's no shame in that room, do you know?
Because sometimes we do need to hash over things a hundred times.
Anyway, we can probably get to that in a minute.

When it comes to people who are neurodivergent or people who have ADHD, I think it's way easier not to get in a frozen situation when you know your back's against the wall, right?
And then it's like the smaller ones, we have a little bit of room to shut down.
And that's where I see the shutdown.
