My mom, bless her, was just in all sorts of shock.

I don't think I was the one to call my dad, but he'd come and I'd kind of sat in the car with him to train before he came into the house and just try to settle him.

My husband came, I gave him a big hug.

I'm like, I hope you're okay.

He was like, you hope I'm okay, what?

I'm just like, I know, but it's going to be okay.

And I really felt that way the whole way through.

did you go through that phase of what no this can't be real no you don't sound like you did yeah i didn't yeah i didn't and it's funny because i only said to you earlier that i never would have thought suicide but it was the mix of the message and then just you know the kind of like i'm no good i never will be and then just like oh do you know um no and it's funny because i didn't even ask i didn't even ask them at that point we found out so many things later on by one of the guards but

Like we're talking a few days later, really, but we all just kind of knew.

And the way that it works, I don't know if anyone's ever spoken about this before, but the guards return a bag to you, like with the clothes that they were wearing, with their belongings.

I think they need a different policy there anyway, because it's really traumatic.

And again, I was able to hold the situation differently to how I think I'd hold it now.

But I got like this bag and opened it and immediately knew my mom couldn't see it.

So I brought it up to my childhood bedroom.

And like, yeah, I mean, they don't, I mean, you just have their clothes covered in blood and all sorts, you know, and muck and Dan was a clean freak and it really annoyed me to see his jacket full of mud and I noticed his shoelaces were missing.

So that's how I found out how he died.
