But AM has reach and distance that FM can't match.
FM is line of sight, so you have to be able to essentially see the tower.
The tower has to be able to see you for the radio to work.
But AM is different.
Half the antenna for AM is underground.
It's buried underground.
On one of my stations, I've got three miles of copper buried underground.
It's the soil conductivity that transmit the signals.
So AM is important because it's not about line of sight.
It will go a long, long, long, long, long, long, long way.
And in the cases of emergency, tornado, hurricane, alien attack, AM may be the only way to be able to understand where you're supposed to go so you can be safe.
And the thing that's most boggling to me, I mean, this is not an argument that the members of the House and Senate overwhelmingly approve this as part of public safety.
I saw the reports yesterday.
The opponents of this, which are basically car manufacturers and their friends, have spent millions of dollars lobbying
to try to block it, to try to make sure that we can't help people keep radios in their cars in cases of emergencies.
I don't understand why it's worth millions of dollars to take something out.
It doesn't make sense except for the fact that they're trying to build a revenue stream, a subscription revenue stream.
And there's several different pathways and several different systems.
But ultimately, it's an EAS system.
But there's IPOS, there's CAPS, there are all these components that plug into it.
