The original reason we have these needs is to deal with our surroundings, right?
So if you just do a thought experiment to like our ancestors, hunter gatherer ancestors, right?
They're moving around.
The ones that are going to be more successful are the ones that figure out how to...
Manipulate the environment to protect them from predators, manipulate the environment to protect them from the elements.
And so they have to be drawn to physically do that.
And then to physically do something, there has to be some psychological pull.
Right.
And so the psychological pull is kind of agency, competence and connection.
And so it's easy to define those things in that context.
Right.
So for our ancestors, like the agency is the.
feeling like you have a say in your surroundings right you feel like you can do something about this situation um and competence is actually doing it right competence is hey i can i did just manipulate the situation i saw what happened i feel better about myself as a result and and i'm growing because of it too right i'm learning what happened and then the connection is you
connection to other people, obviously, but also connection to something larger than yourself, right?
So if you feel like you're connected to the world around you, um, and actually one of the original reasons people connected beyond hunter gatherer tribes was to, to manipulate spaces in a, in a larger way, right?
To build monuments.
Um, and now the tribes are coming together and they have to coordinate to be able to build these big things.
