So there is the belief.

I want to talk about this word sales and use whatever word makes you comfortable.

There is a belief that sales is based on talking people into doing something that they don't want to do.

And there's two things wrong with that belief.

One, our research shows salespeople who have a noble purpose, who truly want to improve life for customers,

actually are more successful financially.

So it's not just a nice to have.

And the reason why is because if I'm talking to you, we are better at reading intent than we ever have been because we have so many messages coming at us, especially younger people are really good at reading intent.

If I'm talking to you, my mental talk track is close this deal, close this deal, get him to sign up, get him to stay, get him to stay.

You're going to read that.

And it might not be totally off-putting, but it's not going to be compelling either.

What's my best and highest use here with Kevin?

You're going to read that.

So that's number one.

That is actually the essence of sales.

But the other thing is when you think about this idea, I don't want to push people into doing something they don't want to do.

That's really kind of arrogant because do you really think you could be that compelling that you could get someone to do something they don't want to do?

Even if they say yes, they'll just walk out the door and cancel.

So this idea that I will make people do something they don't want to do, it's really hard to make somebody do something they don't want to do, especially when what you're asking them to do is come back to you a lot.
