And, you know, we work with people all the time every day and they might have the same income and you've got two people earning $100,000 a year.
One of them might be able to borrow $50,000, $70,000, $100,000 more than the other one.
They're earning the same because one's got a car loan and a couple of credit cards.
Now, dependents also affect your borrowing capacity.
And, you know, I guess it's an assumption.
I think it's reasonable that, you know, you have more expenses when you've got kids.
I certainly know that's the case for me.
Yeah, that's the case for me.
So I understand that, but it can make it challenging as well.
Well, it is still considered mortgage stress, but I think the reality is that almost all of us are in mortgage stress.
So, yeah, the traditional rule is don't spend more than 30% of your income on rent or mortgage.
If you look at the statistics, you know, renters are spending about 32%, I think it is, just over 30% on average.
It's not everybody on rent.
Mortgage holders closer to 50%.
sometimes even closer to 60% in Sydney.
So that would score on that scale as extreme mortgage stress.
Now, I do think people are struggling.
I do think it's really difficult to spend 50% or 60% of your income on your mortgage.
I don't think that that's something that we should just accept as normal and carry on.
But I do think that it is a reality.
