You know, I'm this big, strong, tough man, resilient, you know, impenetrable person.

I can't accept help.

I should be able to do this on my own.

And being an elite athlete, it's like, well, I should be able to master this.

Admitting that I'm fallible, admitting that I can't achieve this thing, admitting that I can't master this thing is something that's so completely foreign to me.

I shouldn't need somebody else to help me.

I should be able to help myself.

But I couldn't help myself because I was an addict and you literally have no control over your addiction.

So in the beginning, help was, you know, therapy and mum was doing everything.

I was, because I was still living in Canberra.

My mum was like making psychologist appointments for me.

Mum was like doing everything.

Mum was like, I've researched like hypnotherapy.

Like I booked you in at a hypnotherapist and mum was like just, mum was like researching everything, ringing people, booking appointments for me, paying for them.

Like mum,

mom said you know this is your appointment three o'clock wednesday afternoon it's paid for go please so in the beginning sorry to you know a long answer this question but the help in the beginning was was therapy and psychologists and stuff but i struggled to actually apply what i was learning and what i was working through with these people and it really took me

a long time and a lot of work to be able to actually start to understand and apply those things in my life because I was starting from zero.

And then it got to the point where I knew, because my mom wanted me to go to rehab and

And I was really resistant to rehab because I felt so much shame.

I was so filled with shame.
