or an A for approaching mastery.
So when you think about approaching mastery, there is a really, really large variation in what that could mean.
And it's just changed.
And one of the things that's interesting at Alpha, we've had so much interest in our model.
We've had hundreds of kids come into our school.
And even though we're a private school, we don't base our admission on how kids already have done academically.
We don't care where they're at because we know that they can
catch up in our system wherever they are.
But we did a little bit of research when these kids came in and we saw that if they were an A student at their previous school, that meant from our assessments they were anywhere between one year ahead
and three years behind their grade level.
If they were a B student on their transcript from their previous school, they were between three years behind and seven years behind.
So we had, for example, ninth grade students who couldn't write a grammatically correct sentence
you know, that a third grader would be able to write.
I will tell you, parents, their eyes go big when they see this, especially if they were sending their kids to some expensive private school.
They're like, I've been paying all this money, assuming the school was educating them.
I've been getting report cards saying that there are A students and you're telling me my kid's behind.
And we say, that's true.
However, here's the good news.
It doesn't take that long to catch up.
You're not going to be years behind.
