And that night that the news had been at our house, James ended up in hospital again because he had just been kind of pushing himself so hard that he got like an infection type of thing.

There was certainly fear, yeah.

When it when it first came out that it was cancer and we still didn't know what type, we had to tell them because we had heard that rumours were going around.

James Hastings is very sick because he's closed his business and that was unusual.

So we decided to tell the kids and I got great advice from Cancer Care West and there's Holly Blue House in Gort as well.

Just spoke to them about what was the best way to do it.

And you need to be honest, but do it in a way that's suitable for them, not frighten them.

So we had a really difficult conversation.

It must be heartbreaking.

Heartbreaking where he sat down and we said, look, Daddy has cancer, but the doctors are going to do absolutely everything that they can to help him to get better.

And he might have to have chemotherapy.

that there might be any kind of treatment and the kids were asking will he lose his hair we don't know there was all those questions come up and it's amazing the things that kids think of and yeah look into they dealt with it very well did they yeah yeah and then as time went on and it was looking more serious we were able to explain that to them as well that look it's it's very serious but there is there is a type of medicine and we're going to do our very best to get it okay

So throughout all of James's research, he found that there is a place in London that would do it.

And he got speaking to this doctor who's sort of the best, say, in the UK in that speciality.

And he said, look, I don't really believe that you're in this very low percentage of people who have MSI high.

I'm going to get that tested again because I'm not sure.

That would be very unusual.

So we had it tested again and the results got back to that doctor in the UK and he said, this is very rare.

Of all my patients, you're the fourth one that I've seen with this specific thing out of hundreds and hundreds of people.

And he said, I will be able to treat you and there's no reason why you wouldn't be cancer free after two years or as cancer free as anybody else.
