You know, we are proficient English speakers, but we don't even know the sounds that we're saying.

Exactly, yeah.

So I'm seeing teachers really educate themselves now.

and getting that knowledge.

I think the next challenge is really going to be around how we teach.

So we're getting the content underway, what we teach, but it's also structured literacy isn't just about sounds.

It's not just about letters or even about grammar and all those sort of things.

It's also how we teach it.

And I think that's really the challenge for teachers at the moment because it is quite different to how we have been teaching for the last 40, 50 years.

And so undoing a little bit of that pedagogy is challenging at times.

But the more explicit we become in our teaching and direct education,

And perhaps thinking about the amount of instruction we're giving and making sure it's nice and spaced, that it's, yeah, some of the challenges.

So really it's like we've almost set up a dichotomy between direct explicit instruction and creative or discovery type learning.

But actually it's more of a continuum.

And what we know about struggling learners or even learners that are just starting to learn something new for the first time,

that explicit direct instruction is more helpful.

Of course, once we have got that, we've then got something to base our discovery learning on.

You can't use discovery methods and, you know,

Like you say, think about problem solving if you haven't got a base of foundational knowledge.
